im88 mounting position

Postby milesb » Sun Nov 18, 2007 5:04 pm

SCSA kindly gave me his 175 im88's. When I get the bindings remounted, is the stock mounting position good, or should I go forward of the mark? The bindings are Mojo something or other. I plan to use them for most of my off-piste skiing at Mammoth.

Mine have railflex bindings, which have an easy adjustment 10mm forward or back from the centre mark. I think they turn more easily with the binding forward but not sure why. (mine are also a bit longer, 186cm).

Check out the Ball Of Foot consept. In one case (see pimp my head thread) I had to go as far forward as 4cm. I abandoned Head last year for this reason but this year they ship all their racing skis without plate mounted.

Standard location

I have your exact ski. Mine are mounted in the standard location. Bindings are Look Pivot 12/s. I'm very happy with them.

I'd use standard or back position

In the past I preferred the forward mount position but now I am leaning more towards back mount position since it gives you more ski tip bending power.

The lack of consensus is confusing me! :D

Maybe having an adjustable binding position is more useful than I thought. That additional bend from mounting further back sounds like fun to play with.

I have had mine mounted with the mojo bindings at the standard for two years-love it.

An update- I had them mounted about 1 cm forward (mostly so that the shop only had to change the monting of the heel piece- 50% less chance of them screwing it up, heh.). Probably a good thing, as they are still not as nimble as the Chubbs I was using. But they are still really great at high speeds. Here is a pic from yesterday on a double black, wow pictures really flatten this slope :?

I love the smell of a bending monster in the morning!
