1) it spreads out the load on your shins to avoid sore spots. If your liner tongues aren’t stiff enough to disperse the load or are shaped a little wrong for your leg, this is a big plus. If you ski a lot, the bruises will otherwise build up over the season.
2) if your cuff is canted, the top buckle may not seat itself well or may pop out as your leg reduces in volume over the ski day. It’s easier to rely on boosters in this case, and a single booster may have more give than you prefer.
A black level coach encouraged me to try double boosters several years ago, and it’s worked well for me.
