Replacements

Postby sfcarve » Tue Feb 20, 2024 1:18 pm

Hi,

I finally need to replace my aging TT-800 and Head Peak 78 (the version in 2010 after the old Monster 78).

The priority is probably the Peak 78 and I've been considering, based on the forum, Bode's Peak series or a kastle MX. Something in the 80-85 range would be ideal as it's my DD in Tahoe snow.

For the TT-800, would you recommend the Supershape e-Original, e-Speed or the e-Race non-pro? I do like the smaller turning radius for practice / feedback and the TT-800 is very enjoyable to ski in many different conditions.

Thanks!

I have not skied Bode's Peak 78 but it looks interesting. The Kastle MX 83 is a great ski and probably gives you the most of the available 78-84mm waisted skis.

As for replacing the TT 800s I don't think you can go wrong with either the E-originals or the SS e-speeds. If you like a tighter TR then go the the e-originals as its 12.1 vs 14 TR in the 170 length.

Thanks for confirming what I thought!

I'm going to try to demo the MX 83, but my Peak 78's are starting to pre-release so may have to pull the trigger quickly!

I believe the SuperShape e-Originals have wider tails than my TT-800's, but would you say they have a similar feel otherwise? The TT-800's @170 are 13.3 radius so I wonder if the e-Speeds would feel more similar and have the same versatility.

The SS e-speed is probably closer to the TT 80/800 than the e-Original. The e-Original has a very tight TR and a tail with a lot of sidecut. The tails on the e-speeds have less sidecut, similar to the TT 80s.

Thanks jbotti for the advice!

I got the MX 83's and have had a couple days on them. They've been great on the groomers, but a lot less forgiving in moguls than my old Head Peak 78's. I think the Peak 78's at 13+ years old were pretty dead as the MX 83's feel a lot stiffer, particularly in the tails, and have incredible grip. All good as they provide strong feedback if I'm skidding, twisting or backseat.
