PMTS J.P. Grange, truly an inspirational skier.

Postby h.harb » Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:16 pm

Just call him "PMTS Grange", for short.

If you watch this, and I'm sure Max can dig up the exact comments and context, when Bob Barnes (the all mighty smart one; leader of the Epic band of merry men) said PMTS was useless, my book was useless and no one used PMTS movements.

Well watch this closely, you might see what the best slalom skiers in the world are doing. Even if Bob Barnes, the great PSIA guru, can't see straight. Maybe his proctologist can tell him where to look.

1. At the end of the arc, flex the old stand leg

2. Lift the old downhill stance ski and boot, or outside ski and boot
3. Tip and flex the inside leg
4. And how he pulls and keeps his inside foot back. Well Done, Mr. Grange, but you would fail the Bob Barnes skiing test.

Grange is not extending off the uphill leg, he is not pivoting his skis, he's not steering his legs or his skis. So tell me please, someone, even Bob, if he had the kahones to come over here, what the hell did Bob ever get right about skiing?

Thought we might as well get this season off to a great start.

I am sensing a ski off!! Can we finally get one? HH and BB on ten judged runs. The early Vegas line is HH at 99-1. Hey that's better than money market rates and probably safer!!

Before anyone on any other site gets his/her panties in a wad, I am just having some fun. Last I heard that is what we are supposed to be doing with some part of our lives!! :D :D :D
Balance: Essential in skiing and in life!

Where is Harald going to find the time? He's been booked for the season since last spring. That pretty much says it all right there. Those of us who want to ski like J.B. know where to go for coaching that works (and we'll wait in line for it if necessary). And if I may say so myself, I was looking pretty J.B.ish on a borrowed pair of Atomic SL's tearing up Ramrod this morning... Bob has it right: PMTS is useless--for teaching steering. But it works pretty damn well for teaching the same technique that the best in the world use.

Yes Geoffda those were the deepest angled turns I have seen from you. Really nice form. If I exchanged helmets with you I would have sworn it was HeluvaSkier on those Slalom Skis.

What really gets to me, is their assumption (PSIA) types, like BB, that they know anything about skiing technique and making skiers better. And then taking that a step further, telling people what the world cup skier is doing. It deceiving, misleading and false. I know skiers with less then two years experience who know more about skiing technique then BB and his whole gang. I guess it's the disingenuousness of their approach that annoys me. BB is the worst of the group and should know something about skiing, (after so many years) or at the very least, be able to differentiate his and PSIA skiing, from what the WC skiers are doing. Even when it's right before their eyes, like Grange's skiing, they don't see it.

When I wrote my first book, they were still teaching push the skis out to the side to get them away from your body, to create angles. You have to be totally stupid, to use that and teach it.

I remember mentioning last year that you made your best turns on your race stock SL skis...

I'm pretty sure Harald could just send any number of his students to proxy-ski for him...

My comments have nothing to do with his skiing ability or mine.

I googled if for you, and this is what showed first:

wikipedia wrote:Bob Barnes is an American comic strip artist. His work includes:

Laugh of the Week....

I think he publishes the "Laughs of the week" over at epic

Confident men don't worry about others. Think, debate and write like men if you wish to be heard.

You and you men friends are out of here. That is as stupid a statement as I've ever read.

Who said that? I must have missed some posts while I was getting my boots set up yesterday.

Anyway, how about this Grange guy. Definitely great skiing. Simple and effective - no extra movements.

Anytime I see indoor skiing I wish these sort of facilities were more prominent in the US. It would allow for focused training in the off season...
